Our third morning began really early. The ship passed through Tracy Arm Fjord around 5:00 am. It would be absolutely crazy to not sacrifice sleep for the opportunity to see this.

So we bundled up and headed up on deck for views we would never forget.
If you have a balcony room, you can take in the views from your room.
We did not so we set up camp in lounge chairs to enjoy the beauty as much as possible before porting in Juneau.
I think balcony rooms would have been a huge mistake on a family cruise. Too many would just stay in their room. This way we had to be out and about on the decks to enjoy the scenery, as a result, we spent more time together.

In Juneau, we all chose to do the excursion together which included a visit to Mendenhall Glacier and a Whale Watching Tour. It was the one and only day that we all did the same thing together.

When we got off the bus, I had to use the restroom. Of course so did everyone else and it was a super long line. Mark was very concerned that we wouldn't make it to the falls and back before our scheduled departure. So we basically ran to Nugget Falls snapped a few photos and tried to enjoy the scene for ten minutes before hiking back.
We had a few extra minutes after we all raced back from the falls to get a family shot. So glad we did.
It is the only one of all of us that wasn't on the ship.
Whale watching was at the top of our list of things we wanted to do in Alaska.
It was so much more AMAZING than photos could ever capture.

We saw so many whales. A mom and baby, three whales together and many more.
Apparently it was a record number for the week ... or so we were told ;)

The water was relatively calm, making it easy to spot them.
This guy was all over the place looking for the action.
SO MUCH FUN!! I would do it again in a minute.
After whale watching, we had several hours until the ship left port. This was one of our longer days in port. Mark and I wanted to explore Juneau. The rest of our crew thought it was too sketchy, so they headed back to the ship.
We couldn't decide ...so we sampled a spinach crepe at one truck and fish-n-chips at another.
We wandered the streets a bit ... found some shirts for the girls.
We sat by the harbor for a while before deciding to head back to the ship.
We had already eaten dinner, but somehow found ourselves perusing the dessert options all over the ship :/

Although the town itself didn't really match up to Ketchikan, the excursion was unforgettable.
Made even better, because we all did it together.
