Our final port was in Victoria Canada. We had to have our passport for this one.
It was unusual in that we arrived at 7 pm and had until 11:30 pm. Given that it would be getting dark by the time we got there, we changed our minds about the Butchart Gardens. Two couples were going there, and three couples were planning to just walk around Victoria. We were hungry [and greedy] for more whale watching and the tour in Canada boasted high probability of Orca sightings.
The company was called Orca Spirit, after all.
The water was rough and while we did see some gray whales, we saw no Orcas :(
We also saw a small colony of sea lions
We got a fantastic look at a lighthouse know as Race Rocks Light , one of the first two built on the west coast of Canada around 1860.
It really was more of an expensive sunset cruise. Romantic!
The coolest part may have been the tour along Victoria's Inner Harbour as we came back to dock.
The Parliament Buildings were splendid
If I had it to do over, I would probably have chosen to just explore Victoria. If it was a different time of day and we had longer, I might try the whale watching again. Although we would not have gotten this view from land. Seeing the ships all lit up was pretty magical.
Victoria was a let down simply because we only had a few hours and it was at night which made things less accessible. Based on pictures we saw from family members, it looks like the type of city that would be super fun to explore. Maybe we will get back there someday.
