Alaska~ Setting Sail

We had a harder time than we anticipated meeting up with the fam. They were all on the same flight from Salt Lake and the plan was to meet us at the port. We waited until they started loading people on the ship (earlier than expected). We couldn't go to our rooms until later in the afternoon, so we were free to explore the Star Princess until they got our luggage etc all settled in the rooms. 

The first thing we did was go check out Horizon Court. We loaded up our plates and found a seat on a deck.

We had no idea what we were in for, but we were giddy with excitement. 

As first time cruisers, we were like kids in a candy store. The ship was as gaudy as can be and we were totally eating it up.

We did find the fam a bit later and all met on the upper deck for the Embarkation, which was without much fanfare.

Our dinners were all scheduled in the Amalfi Dining Room every evening. I was so glad we did it this way so we could spend that time together.  We had this table and one adjacent with seating for four more. This is one thing I wish we could have changed. It would have been more fun to all sit at one table rather than deciding who got/had to sit at the other table.

We came to learn quickly that the food looked so much better than it tasted. Nothing was bad, it just typically didn't live up to it's presentation. This dessert (The Love Boat Dream) might have been the exception. It was probably the best dessert we had the whole time (and we had a lot ... too much)

We enjoyed a nice stroll around the deck that evening. Honestly, it freaked me out big time. But it was beautiful.
