Bird Funeral

The little old house we are living in has this huge front window [which I am in love with:].  It serves us well with tons of natural light and nature watching.  The only problem is that it has on more than one occasion, been the rude awakening for an unsuspecting little bird who does not realize that it is in fact...a window:(  

We typically hear that startling "thud" and then the poor thing kinda bounces off the window and flies away.  In our little minds it recovers and goes on its merry way:)  On this particular occasion, we stumbled upon a victim to the window.  Emmrey and her animal loving heart could not imagine just leaving it there, so the rubber gloves came out and they went to work.

Kars is a great big sister and she broke out the shovel and began digging a proper hole for the burial.  So now the little birdie will rest in peace and hopefully we will not be witness to any more window tragedies :(

Green Day

As I've said in years past, the coming of the Leprechaun gets nearly as much anticipation around here as a visit from Santa.  I don't know what it is, but Emm gets so excited about it!!  While I love that she is so full of JOY, I am less enthused about making a huge production out of St. Patty's. I really am trying to simplify with certain things for multiple reasons, but we just couldn't overlook it all together. Luckily, she doesn't need it to be a big show to have fun and since Bay and Kars are less impressed with it all :( ...I'll take it as long as I possibly can.  We simply had to make a trap.  Tried to keep it simple with what we had on hand.  Emmrey knew exactly what those tricky guys like....

I love how her note telling him/her where the gold is and to "clim the rainbow".  She is absolutely convinced that she is going to catch one and is always so discouraged that we haven't;)

 That Leprechaun was sneaky again.  Got the gold...but all we found in the trap was a little treat for the girls.... green socks, gold Nuggets and rainbow Skittles (no picture since they tore into them quicker than I could get to it)  We also found our toilet had been utilized again....not sure if the girls are amused by this or just grossed out;)

 We ended the day with our traditional Shamrock Shakes ...this year with a lil' Irish stache!!

Seuss Week

If you didn't know that it was the birthday of the beloved Dr Seuss last week....there would be no overlooking it around these parts.  Emm and Karsy's school had a week long celebration to honor the great author.  Karsyn did a little "picking and choosing" as to which days she wanted to participate, Emmrey on the other hand was all over it.  She LOVES to celebrate anything!!! This was how the week looked:

• Miss-matched Monday: wear mis-matched socks [the miss-matched socks the girls received from Grampa & Gramma this Christmas were perfect]
• Top Hat Tuesday: wear a top hat or a favorite hat [we opted for the Top hat we had in the costume box...Kars opted out of this one;)]
• Wacky Wednesday: wear your clothes backwards and inside out.  Emm wasn't loving inside out, but was excited about backwards....[she was laughing about how funny those shorts felt in the hiney as she tried to sit down]
• Theodore Thursday: dress up as a Dr Seuss character.  Last year we did Cindy Lou Who and decided this year to dress as a Star Bellied Sneetch....which was just as cute:)
• Fun Friday: wear your PJ's and listen/watch Dr Seuss stories [Kars opted back in for this one]

Emmrey was just beside herself with excitement every morning as she woke up to get ready.  I made some easy Star Bellied Sneetch cupcakes to share with her class....

 We added The SNEETCHES to our Library since we didn't have that one and we enjoyed reading it while eating our cupcakes later that night;)

Kids eXtreme Ice Festival

Last weekend Wyoming State Parks & Trails hosted the annual Kids eXtreme Ice Festival.  The write up on it made it sound pretty spectacular.....ice sculptors, carriage rides, sledding, snowmobile simulator, games etc. so we decided we better check it out. 

It had snowed during the night and continued into the morning so we debated on whether to make the effort.  Since it was held downtown...within walking distance for us ....we figured we may as well.

It was sooo cold and other than a few runs down the sledding hill, the girls really didn't want to do anything....they kinda like to have the hills all to themselves and they weren't really digging having all those people to share them with ;)

 I don't know if it was the weather or what, but the ice sculptors were nowhere to be found and the completed sculptures were pretty dismal.  We did take cover in this igloo that was pretty neat.

It didn't take long before Mark and I were wishing we hadn't made the effort.  It probably could have been pretty neat, although the temperature and snow didn't help the cause.  This guy may have been the best thing about the whole event :/
