Our trip overlapped with Mark's birthday and he knew that he wanted to spend that day hiking around somewhere. He did some research (have I mentioned he is really good at that) and came up with Torrey Pines State Nature Reserve as our destination. The forecast had predicted Saturday as being a better weather day than Sunday (his actual birthday). So we decided to flip things around. We drove south toward San Diego and hit this Taco Shop about lunch time where Mark enjoyed the fish tacos.
Nothing fancy about the name or the establishment itself but the tacos were tasty
It seemed like everyone in the state had the same idea that day. The place was crazy busy. Torrey Pines is within the San Diego city limits but remains one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast.
It is home to the rare Torrey Pine which resembles some sort of Bonsai tree.
The wide open space treated us to beautiful views on all sides
The trail is less than a mile (so more of a walk than hike) and eventually drops you down a steep slope to the beach.
We enjoyed several hours on the beach. The weather was beautiful but not warm enough for me to get in the water. The rest of the crew spent more time getting their feet wet in the waves .. they are so much tougher than me.

This little beach bum stripped right down and was cartwheeling her way across the sand. I am certain she is the only person I saw all day in an actual swimsuit;)
These two played in the water and looked for shells but enjoyed some time just watching from a distance.
We had to drag Emmrey away finally. I think this guy enjoyed his day of celebrating his birthday!

After our drive back to Aliso Viejo where we were staying, we grabbed some dinner at Pita Pita. Probably my least favorite place we ate during the trip. The good thing is Mark liked it and these goobers were entertaining;)
We made sure to utilize that pool as much as we could. It's rare that we can be swimming outside in January.

We have a hard time getting this girl out. She is never ready to leave a pool!
