I had the best Mothers Day. Mark and the girls surprised me with a little overnight trip to Estes Park. The forecast for the weekend was looking pretty bleak, but with the plans already in place, we headed out. It rained a little and snowed a lot, but we still had a fabulous time on our mountain getaway.
The first thing we did was find somewhere to hike. The clouds were looming and we knew we didn't have a lot of time before the rain came, so we found a trail just outside of town. It was a nice little hike not too strenuous and not too long.
The girls enjoyed exploring some of the big rock formations along the trail
Emmrey enjoyed getting rides off and on from her sissies:)
We finished just in time for it to start a pretty good downpour. We checked into the hotel and just relaxed for a bit. When we could see it was starting to clear, we knew this was our chance to explore the charming downtown.
The streets are lined with fun little shops .....and old fashioned candy stores on every corner
The temptation was nearly unbearable as we passed window after window with giant cookies, fudge and caramel apples. This scene of silky taffy being pulled did us in....
We had to go inside and fill our little box of Salt Water Taffy with every flavor you can imagine:)
Because the taffy didn't fill us up...we went looking for some dinner and found this local pizza joint. The place itself was a little questionable, but the Chicago style pizza was actually really tasty.
After dinner we drove up a little ways into Rocky Mountain National Park and saw so many Elk..it was crazy. We also spotted the cutest little fox, but he was too fast for me.
The girls were anxious to get back and swim. It was a nice enough hotel, but it had a bit of a 70's vibe with the pool setup (a little odd and cool at the same time)
We ended the day with a little ice cream ......
And we woke up to snow everywhere ...and still falling. We quick grabbed a Mothers Day photo in our winter wonderland before heading off the mountain. It was a heavy wet spring storm that ultimately cancelled church and school the next day (total bummer to have a snow day 3 weeks before school ends). We were glad we made it home safely. Although, I wouldn't have minded being snowed in for another day in beautiful Estes Park with these 3 ladies. I am so grateful I get to be their momma....they are the best!!
Nor would I have been the least bit sad to spend a little more time cozying up with this fella who made all this Mothers Day business happen:)

What an awesome surprise. I am not jealous of the snow, holy cow maybe you'll be snow shoeing this summer :)
