8 is Great

September 11, 2006 became a pretty glorious day for us.  Emmrey Alise entered the world and filled our life with joy!
Oh boy are we ever in LOVE with our blue eyed girl;)
Her big day started off with breakfast in bed...pancakes and almond milk was her request. It was a school morning so things were already rushed and then they have to be at the corner by 7:10. She opened a sweet card that Bailee had left her and one from Gpa & Gma Smith.  She also opened a gift from Gpa & Gma Fortie which was the darling little outfit she put right on. For the first time in our life with kids, we are in a district that requires all treats to be store bought...no  fun homemade treats this year:( She chose doughnuts to share with her class.
For dinner she wanted mac-n-cheese from Noodles so we picked up Bailee from her Tech meeting and went to eat
This girl has been asking [off and on] for years about possibly getting her ears pierced. She struggles with making these "big" decisions [no idea where she gets that] and so I told her a couple of years ago that she should set a special date and if she still wanted them pierced then, we could do it.  We decided her 8th birthday would be perfect. Well she was super excited about the idea of getting them pierced....but once we were there she started getting uneasy.
The more the girls talked her through it....the worse she got. By the time they were ready to pull the trigger she was in tears.  I felt like the worst mother ever.  Like one of those moms who is forcing her kid to do something for their own benefit. I told her over and over [before they actually did it] that she didn't have to do it...we could wait ....no worries.  She said through her tears "but I want to". So we continued on, knowing that once it was over she would be thrilled and if she ended up backing out, she would feel so sad about it.
The strange thing was once it was done, she got really worked up. It was like the trauma of it all kicked in, because she said it didn't really hurt. I guess it's like when your little and get a shot and you cry worse after, even though its over.  It took me right back to those days of holding my babies hands while they got shots....awful feeling.  It was quite the scene I tell ya...luckily we had the place to ourselves. Before this Kars had told Emmrey that she just might consider getting hers done....I am pretty sure after witnessing this, she has reconsidered;)
She was all smiles by the time we paid our hefty bill... [holy moly prices sure have gone up since Bailee got hers pierced] and were out the door
We opened a few presents back at home [her big gift was getting to have a  party at the Lion House the following week]
She was pretty excited to add another Calico Critter family to her collection
We finished off the day with her request of brownies and ice cream for a treat
I can't even begin to imagine life without this happy girl!! Love you the most Boo:)
Emmrey was also very excited to get ready for bed as she had received some matching PJ's for her and Gorden
