We got going really early on Friday to catch a ferry to Culebra. You can only get there via plane or ferry and this was the better option for us. The ferry leaves from Fajardo at 9 am and it typically sells out. With only one departure in the morning it is recommended that you arrive 1-2 hours early. Basically, there is no guarantee you will get a ticket so we weren't taking any chances.
We were happy to get tickets, but weren't crazy about the hour+ waiting around in this not so comfy area ... roosters and all.
The ferry ride was about 45 minutes and I was seriously stressed about Emmrey getting motion sickness. We sat on the upper level in hopes that along with the Dramamine, she would do okay.
Luckily she did. Once there we had to take a taxi to Flamenco Beach.
It might seem like a whole lot of trouble for another day at the beach, but this place was gorgeous and worth every minute.
The day was easily filled with lots of snorkeling, wave jumping and relaxing on the beautiful sand.
We could have stayed another day (and would like to sometime), but we had to catch the ferry back at 5 pm.
The tiny island of Culebra has a cool vibe and if we ever make it to Puerto Rico again, we would like to stay overnight there so we could explore more.
While we were waiting for the ferry, Mark spotted a food truck nearby and got some chicken kabob thing to try ... it was tasty!
The ride back was less enjoyable than going out. When we loaded, the upper level was closed so we got stuck on the bottom. You could really feel the movement of the water .... luckily Emmrey (and Mark) slept most of the trip.
