Puerto Rico Day 1

Spring Break this year meant cashing in our Christmas present for a trip to Puerto Rico.
Day 1 was a loooong day of traveling.
We had a 10 am flight out of DIA, a brief (like off the plane and back on) layover in Iowa, and another 2 hour layover in Orlando. We were delayed an hour for our final leg due to a medical evacuation (luckily not us).
Three airports and three time zones later, we arrived in San Juan after 11 pm.

We were already exhausted, but by the time we got our luggage and rental car, we were spent! We had the worst time finding our airbnb in the dark and unknown territory. The kicker was that Google maps kept navigating us to a gate that was just on the other side of where we needed to be and no matter how we tried, it would take us in circles right back to where we started. We could see where we needed to be, but could not get there. Finally we took a chance and attempted the security code at a gate that did not match the address and it worked! By then we were delirious. Our host was so nice and had patiently waited up for us so we could get the key ... after 1 am. We crashed and slept in the next morning. Our airbnb was the upstairs of this cute house.
It was located in Bayamon, a suburb of San Juan.

It was in a gated community which is very different from what one might expect stateside. I wish that we'd had more time to spend at the house, but we had plans to explore Old San Juan and then move on.
